Angry Evertonians suggest boycott of Liverpool Echo
The Liverpool Echo have today published The Blue Union’s right to reply following on from the scurrilous and unfounded allegations that were levelled at the recently formed fan group.
During the Q&A that took place during Saturday’s successful inaugural Blue Union public meeting, some angry Evertonians from the floor suggested a boycott of the newspaper.
‘Why isn’t the Echo backing us?’, one Evertonian angrily queried.
‘It’s time to boycott the Echo’, another added.
Those concerns were downplayed by The Blue Union chairman, Dave Kelly.
‘I wrote to the Echo after they carried the initial story. The initial story was an unfounded and unsubstantiated attack on the Blue Union. The Echo have conceded that we need the right to reply.
‘I’m not suggesting that we should or we shouldn’t boycott the Echo. We are embarking on a campaign and we need to make sure that we’ve got the media on our side.’
The Echo have today produced an extensive report highlighting The Blue Union’s position and the plans in place for a peaceful protest march at Goodison Park on Saturday before the Aston Villa game.

Only after a concerted campaign has the mud begun to stick for some. I raise my glass to The Blue Union – real Evertonians who want this club to punch at our weight again.
As for the Echo, it’s time they got out of the club’s pocket and started doing some proper reporting.
Hopefully this is the start of a new dawn.
Can you change the headline to angry blue union members suggest boycott of Liverpool Echo – you do not speak for all Evertonians even if we do all want the same thing.
Sack the Juggler – okay, here’s your P45 mate – off you go
I’m not for this, personally. Boycotting the Echo for a group such as ours would be cutting our nose of to spite our faces.
Joke of a newspaper.
All Evertonians should boycott the Red Echo.
Arryarse – you’ve just proved my point
look lads,
Enough is enough. All this protesting is Kopite Behaviour.
You’re not even as good at it as they are!
The Echo has been blue since I learnt how to copy and paste. If you can’t see the wood for the trees then god help you.
Kopite Behaviour *****
Ferrrrrryyyyyy crooooooosssss tthhhee MMMeeeerrrrssssseeeyyyyy
Did any women turn up? Looks a right sausage fest that. Giggity.
I have not bought the so called liverpool echo since it moved its printing to manchester at the cost of scousers jobs it is without exception the worst local evening paper in the country
Wasnt it Derek Hatton who said the meeting was recorded without the knowledge of Bill Kenright
Stopped buying the echo when it went to manchester & bad treatment to Everton fans
I stopped buying the Echo after the dockers strike in 1995, its allways been a redshite tory rag!!
Evertonians……they look like a bunch of scruffy RS supporters out to cause trouble for our Club, Go away and crawl back to the alehouses you bunch of idiots. You do not support EFC you support RS
the echo has been peddling the clubs PR for years, Prentice is the chief culprit.
can some one just say nice and clearly ,WHAT IS IT THE BLUE UNION WANT
Dave Longy – the Blue Union want Kenwright to admit he is not ‘the best person to sell the club’ and stop using the practices he has used for the past 10 years in failing to find a buyer. If he changes his tactics, ie appoints an interim board whose job it is to solely seek out a buyer on a full time basis – not ‘when he gets a spare moment in between West End shows’ as it is now – we might have the same success other clubs seem to have finding a buyer. It’s not rocket science.
As for the idiots with the kopite behaviour crap, Id rather support these fans now and do something, than do nothing and tread water, selling out best players, lose our great manager and end up relegated. The current board have no plan for the way forward at all, so it is time to force them to make the required changes.
thanks barry ,
Since when has protesting been strictly ‘Kopite behaviour’?
Football supporters of loads of different clubs have protested against their owners/boards/chairman for fuckin’ years before they did it.
Stop being so paranoid and obsessing about them.
Is right Blue Moon Rising. One of the more famous incidents in our history in the 1960s was a protest – the Evertonian being marched out of the ground by the cops, after holding up the placard ‘Sack Catterick Play Young’ after Catterick dared to drop the Golden Vision.
really gets up my nose when people say its kopite behavior. what is kopite behavior? you mean someone who wont stand and watch there club being dragged to its knees?protesting is the right of every fan who is worried that everton football club is in serious trouble.so if you dont agree with protesting go stick your head back in the sand because everything is going to be ok in your fairytale world.
Seriously, take a look at the top 6 last seasons – how do you think we will ever do better than we are doing now?
Why can’t you just be ‘fans’? Why all this militant ‘down with the establishment’ rubbish? I knew it was a bad idea allowing broadband to be rolled out to the tramps who can’t just know their place.
None of you have a clue what you are doing, so stop making us look bad please – you don’t speak for me or any of the other Everton fans I know, please get back on the dole and chill out.
This Blue Union thing is getting right on my tits, Get a grip do you honestly think that holding a big fuckoff Mothers meeting, will (a)make the board give a shite (b)enhance are chances of attracting investors (c) making a difference in the way we are reported in the newspaper(other than them putting us in the same sentence as the shite supporters).
We all know we should have investors banging at the door, But we ain’t so unless we get major money soon let’s just get behind the squad of men who WANT to play in Royal Blue. All this shit does is gives the rest of the media something to write about.
COYB.
I couldn’t make it on Saturday but I want to do the protest thing, is there any news on what is gonna happen???
Is this thread closed?
On the subject of incompetence. BU have just blown a unique opportunity of discussing issues with the Chairman by betraying confidence and broadcasting the meeting verbatim. It tells what we already knew – we are piss poor, banks are not charitable, no buyers, BK a bit of a dork – but all handled in such a way as to make any further engagement impossible. Avenue one cut.
Now we are to boycott/campaign against the local media – regarded as all Manc based Tory, RS loving hacks anyway – for not reporting on the conundrum regarding club sale and not taking management to task. Avenue two cut.
This is hardly a prospectus for winning support and influence.
one thing we dont know and need to know, is how much Kenwright and co want for the club.
Brian…ever thought that billy boy wanted the meeting to pan out the way it did, this would then give him a reason/excuse not to hold any more meetings (ever)…..with any group of fans
Garry – IF that was the case then the BU played right into his hands, and there I was thinking BK a dork. But BK didn’t need to be Machiavellian as BU simply blew it by playing this unique opportunity purely off the cuff, rambling across past and present problems facing the club without focusing questions on key issues affecting us right now. They could have kept him from waffling around and enable others to follow up at other meetings (eg shareholders) or the press. By not being absolutely clear about disclosure they ended up conceding moral high ground to BK in eyes of many observers. But no, it seems the temptation of 15mins of fame proved irresistible and now no one gets access to anyone inside the club to get anything out of them. Well played lads!
Now they want to go to war with the media FFS.
Brian…I take onboard your logic, however, it still dos’nt detract from the point that no matter what was discussed or how it was discussed and the rights & wrongs of the matter – BK may have intent on creating the situation we are now in. Of course you can never be sure & it is pure conjecture.
