Blue Union Statement: Apology
The Blue Union would like to extend an unreserved apology to the Everton correspondent of the Liverpool Echo, Greg O’Keeffe.
Greg was in fact present at The Blue Union’s inaugural public meeting yesterday at the Casa in an official capacity.
We look forward to his full and comprehensive report on yesterday’s successful meeting.

Looking forward too it..
Don’t hold your breath waiting for the echo to do any investigative journalism on this issue, they will tow to EFC board party line, that is don’t annoy us or we will ban you…..sounds a familiar thing they’ve done in the past.
However, they just might, might, might, might realise the ground swell on this one & think we may get more echo sales on this one…..watch this space !!
As discussed in yesterday’s meeting, all Evertonians should boycott the Echo.
I will never forgive them for their reporting on Kirkby; nor will I forget the lack of coverage Everton fan unrest has received.
It’ll be reported in the Echo that the Casa had five people there and that all of them were recording each other.
Expect fuck all decent coverage from those Kopite supporting hacks.
From the Echo point of view, this ‘Don’t slag us off or we’ll ban you’ is a tough one. Everton coverage sells papers. Echo needs to sell papers. Echo does not want to be banned. At the same time, is the Echo journalistic ethos & integrity more powerful than the actual revenue that Trinity Mirror wants the paper to make through selling papers?
I think we all know that – it’s the way of the world in 2011.
Look at the way the BBC has bent over backwards to get Ferguson back on board after all these years – the Director General supposedly issued a personal apology. As opposed to the BBC, you know, telling Ferguson where to go.
Don’t expect the Echo to ever be a totally impartial unbiased voice. Greg is a good writer and a passionate blue. He’s got a mortgage to pay like everyone else and he’s not going to risk his gig by going against the internal politics. At least Greg is a blue, unlike some of his predecssors (King). Prentice is an interesting case – he’s been there, seen it, done it, reported on Everton for the better part of 20 years. He knows what goes on at the club better than a lot of people. In addition to him fulfilling his job, he also has the family ties, being married Dixie Dean’s granddaughter. As long as he doesn’t ruffle too many feathers, he’ll always been allowed access to areas other people don’t get in.
Rather than get frustrated at Prenno and Greg, why not take the Echo concerns to the top, namely the actual sports editor of the Echo, John Thompson (the self-admitted red)? Why not ask Mr Thompson why he allows EFC to dictate how the Echo’s reporters cover the club? Why not ask him why Echo revenue gained via EFC access is apparently more important than genuinely reporting and investigating what goes on at the club?
And while I’m at it, a thought on Kenwright. Why not start targetting and putting pressure on the other board members, like Earl and Woods? Kenwright is getting all the flack and rightly so, but Earl owns a significant share in the club and is definitely not an Evertonian. A bit of pressure on him and do you think he’s gonna want to stick around? Without Earl, the house of cards falls down.
the correct phrase is “toe the EFC board’s party line”. if you are going to share supposedly well founded opinions, you need to ensure they are grammatically correct, or you just look plain daft.
HBGB….You’re obviously not aware that their is some debate as to what is the correct term….TOW or TOE, I chose tow, you on the other hand chose toe. Not a real issue though for me !
Step one should really be that you all chip in to buy a dictionary.
You can only ever “tow” a line and it would be “there” not “their” is some debate as to what is the correct term. By the way when somebody either comes up with money or has a solution other than a protest this will all become more productive. Nobody wants to buy our club, we are small, there is no profit in history. Irrespective of the price can anybody come up with one name of anybody who has expressed an interest in purchasing Everton? Just one name, not conjecture, my mate down the pub knows of a bid etc, just one name?
Why are the Echo so scared of the club?
HBGB / edith / Sean (names spelt as per your own type)……..Thank U hall very much 4 ure dtailed gramhour lesen, nice 2 no thier r sow many peops abowt.
Lee, presumably because of their readership and the access to club staff..not to mention the contracts on various club publications and the website (Trinity Mirror)
Is it true this march and protest will travel from near the souvenir shop to the Park End? That’s not a march lads, that’s crossing a road.
At least do a couple of circuits of the ground too. Maybe have a few buckets for donations with you.
Good idea with the buckets, the march will be longer than that Ste, I hope we have plenty of horns and whistles to make lots of noise when we are walking down goodison road, so all the corperates can see us outside the main stand.
What a bunch of sad jokers.
You want to control the press? You want to dictate what is released and what isn’t? The same bunch of deceptive Machiavellians with who had no respect for the ‘private conversation’ they had with the chairman?
What’s wrong with just inviting them, and if they turn up and report then so be it, if not……so be it.
And whether they do or not, why do you think you have a god given right to be agreed with?
sean
get a life – a hobby maybe, go watch liverpool
Did someone just mention ‘Echo’ and ‘journalistic ethos & integrity’ in the same sentence?
For what it’s worth, the phrase is, “Toe the Party Line.” (“Tow” would imply you were pulling them behind you – if only!)
Now, I’m seen as a pedantic asshole by some but even I know that none of this is AT ALL important! The only effective tactic is a boycott, but this will be counter-productive in the short term.Kenwright was remarkably (naively!) honest with the Blue Union and it backfired, so expect deeper entrenchment!
The Barkley rumours have begun and the Rodwell ones will resume if his form picks up, so we’d better decide what we want quickly & prepare for some REAL suffering!
NSNO!

Another joke of pathetic crap from the BU. To me the BU is a bigger joke than the most other things that are everton currently.
I think whomever writes this crap without knowing the facts and who makes the decision to disrespect the hospitality offered by everton should be asked to leave BU; well unless of course the agenda is different to what they actually say.
I think the BU is the lazy version of a word but missing 6 letters.
To anyone who replies saying support liverpool or swiping at me just remember i love everton and feel the pain, the difference is i just do not like the pathetic approach being taken or the tactics employed.
Rich, Sean. If you don’t agree then why don’t you come up with some better ideas. I keep hearing how people don’t agree/see the point of protesting but nothing about how to make things happen!
You lot continue to do nothing if that’s what you want, but we will fight to make this club great again.
NIL SATIS NISI OPTIMUM. in case you’ve forgotten
Rich – what pathetic crap is this? the blue union apologise to the echo reporter because he was there, which shows they can admit mistakes when they make one (unlike a certain chairman), and look forward to his response. I really do feel some people would rather nit-pick at the blue union rather than support them. They want the best for the future of the club, and some fans are against them, but never offer a reason why this current board deserves to be in charge.
Just so there is no confusion there are obviously two Seans leaving messahes on here, I happen to be the first one looking for a name of a bidder.
Sean – is your glass half empty or half full ?.
Still havent seen my e-mail on any EVERTON FC Website? `i`ll try again. I was at the Casa on Saturday and all i can say is everthing i heard, `SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME` I am going to leave the serious stuff to the people who no better than me and pray to the football gods it all works out for my beloved EVERTON FC. But even in this sad time in are history the wit and warmth of the EVERTONIONS SHONE THROUGH LIKE A BEACON? I`LL JUST GIVE YOU TWO EXAMPLES. When the chair asked for a sensible chant we could use on the protest march next Saturday someone shouted, “KOPITES ARE GOB SHITES”? WHICH BROUGHT HOWELS OF LAUGHTER? Then someone suggested, could`nt we make some sort of a gesture at 3 oclock as the players run out and the TV CAMERAS pan on the crowd? and again a voice beamed out.”I NO, AS THE TEAMS RUN OUT WE`LL ALL TURN ARE BACKS DROP ARE KECKS AND DO A BRAVEHEART”?? I am still laughing at the thought of 3-4 thousand EVERTONIONS ALL DROPPING THIER KECKS ON MATCH OF THE DAY? Sort that one out Linneker &Co?? As i sadi i know how serious a future we are facing as EVERTONIONS? BUT IT HELPS TO SMILE A LITTLE? AND SAY YOUR PRAYERS WHEN YOU GO TO BED?
Right, maybe the Echo has not reported on the ‘fans unrest’ because frankly that unrest is coming from a minority of fans – fans I might add that think their voices should be heard more than everyone else.
Same with this ‘protest’ rubbish, you will find yourselves in the minority again on Saturday. I for one will gladly turn my back on the protest and Blue Union – and I think you will be surprised how many others will too.
You are a minority, please do not say that you represent the voice of the fans. You do not.
Garry o’toffeeweb – that’s some sparkling wit you’ve got there, are you the next John Bishop?
DaveyJones, there is a group..an organised group…and it it is growing.
How do you determine they are a ‘minority’? Is there an “anti Blue Union” group??
You make assumptions for many thousands of Evertonians, do you not? If the majority are steadfastly behind the Chairman, and against The Blue Union..then I think that will quickly become evident.
I don’t think that is the case at all though. I don’t think the views of BU are in the minority at all, either.
I think it is simply a case that everyone is different and some people, no matter how bad things get, just don’t have the personality to pro-actively do anything about the things they perceive to be wrong.
The widespread booing at the games for the last 12 months doesn’t suggest to me that the fans are onside with the Chairman OR the manager to be honest. I think that both are walking a very fine line with a lot of match-going Blues.
Well I do not boo at the games, I am very much for a positive approach rather than anything negative such as booing. Plus, I am sure fans that do boo are not doing so because they do not agree with the amount of ‘other operating costs’ (a common term used by those who oppose the board) on the club’s financials, but because we just lost a game or gave a really poor performance. Why aren’t fans booing in protest when we win a game?
Do you think because The Blue Union are being pro-active that they are right (I am sure you do)? So far all the pro-active activities or initiatives I have seen/heard of/read have not been executed well (in my opinion). Before the usual replies come back, no I don’t have a better approach at this point in time – I simply don’t have the time.
Time will tell if there is a majority following of Blue Union. The principle (safeguarding our club) I can’t argue with, but the execution I do not like. For example, whether a fan said in jest or not, suggesting we turn our backs on the team as they run out is just ludicrous.
I really, really dislike the ethos behind KEIOC, but, I do admire the way in which they conduct their affairs. How much influence do they have within Blue Union?
For every opposition to Blue Union they are usually met with some low intelligent reply or abuse, so thank you staveros for the normal reply. Appreciate it.
we are weally, weally sowwy. please fowgive us!
I blame the RS.
Everyone knows if it hadn’t have been for Heysel we’d be where United are now.

Anyone want to buy a megaphone and a cardie?
I’m boycotting this apology
Moyes has told you, senior players have told you and professional financial advisors have told you – the current situation is as good as it will get until a buyer comes in. Mark my words, BU will bring down this club. BK will be forced to sell to anyone and get out, Moyes will get fed up and leave – the club will be bankrupt and in the lower divisions within 2-3 years. Noone wants a billionaire investor more than me but the simple truth is the world is not that awash with ones who want to invest £400m into a club before they see a return.
Just feel the need to say that i am as loyal a supporter as you could wish to meet, but i dont agree with BU’s tactics. i think you lost credibility by taping private discussions. AND i think a fan protest will send a further negative image to potential buyers. YOU can bet the media will enjoy our discomfort. agree with @gutted and just hope caps and controls one day level the playingfield .
