Blues to swoop for Tigers starlet Cairney?
Rumours emanating in Hull are today suggesting that the Blues are in talks with Hull City for the transfer of 19 year old midfielder Tom Cairney, with young striker James Vaughan touted to move in the opposite direction.
Standing at 6′ 0″, Cairney has caught the eye of many during his fledgling Premiership career, showing a bite in the tackle, a cultured left peg and an eye for goal that suggest he could be one of the brightest young English talents of the next generation.
Born in Nottingham to an English mother and Scottish father, Cairney remains eligible for both national teams – despite having represented the Scots at U19 level.
A fee of £2.5m, with James Vaughan as a makeweight, would certainly put the transfer within the realms of Everton’s extremely limited budget and with former Leicester manager Nigel Pearson now calling the shots at the KC Stadium – Vaughan of course spending the back end of last season with the Foxes – there are certainly plenty of reasons to believe this one may well be a ‘goer’.
With Jack Rodwell now committed to a 5 year deal and Marouane Fellaini finally showing glimpses towards the back end of last season that he may well be the real deal after all, the addition of Cairney could see Everton boasting one of the youngest, most dynamic and powerful central midfields in the division next season.
Evertonians will of course remember the player for the absolute peach he dropped into the Gwladys St net last season that set the loveable Phil Brown dancing onto the Goodison turf – prematurely as it turned out!
As Bill says….”watch this space”!!
Would Tom Cairney be a good signing for the Blues at £2.5m + Vaughan??

Stay away from him, he is ours, we would love Vaughan on loan however, but you will never get Cairney.
I’m sure Tom would jump at the chance of signing for Everton but he needs first team football and is not yet good enough for Everton. Do Everton buy young talent or develop their own? My impression is the latter – I would hope for Hulls sake the latter!!
We buy them in and develop them echo…and a nice little pool we are getting together now.
I could really see this one happening, especially with us just having lost Gosling.
He looks every inch a ‘Moyes’ player with his age, attitude, size and the relatively small fee.
Vaughan is a MASSIVE talent by the way lads. If he could stay fit I jest not in saying he is a potentially £10m striker.
Raw pace, aggression, eye for a goal…he’s a throwback. If you could keep him fit he’d rip the Championship apart.
Does SOS still believe Arteta signing a new deal is just a matter of time? Gone a bit quiet on that one
Yes Paul, what do you expect…that we keep re-posting the same story day after day?
I agree with Staveros. Vaughan is a very exciting and direct player, immensely talented but seemingly made of very brittle stuff.
Whoever gets to keep him fit (Everton or whoever) and if (a very big IF) he manages to stay fit for a decent run of games, that club will be very lucky indeed. I personally hope it is at Everton but we seem to be collecting strikers like they are going out of fashion this Summer.
Bit touchy – only asking. I meant it had gone quiet everywhere – not this site.
Vaughney would be a great asset to keep hold of, even if he is injury prone, he tackles 110% for every ball and frightens the life out of defenders with his pace, his vision and commitment.
If Moysie feels that Cairney is good and young enough to develope then i will back him all the way,Moysie’s track record in developing youngsters is only second to Fergie!
Goose has been illadvised, he will only see that in years to come.

Does SOS mean, Steal our Stars – keep off.If vaughan was any good you wouldnt be getting rid.
This total non-story is made up nonsense..who writes this rubbish
I don’t think Cairney should be sold now.in a couple of yrs from now he could be worth much more.Hope NP& AP take a good footballing decision.
Hi Toffees,
Vaughan if fit could be our next Fraizer Campbell (big if but plausible).. would be a pity to lose Cairney, but it would be a big ask for him to get many games in the Everton team. Maybe better to do a deal on him joining you after another season with us, like a first refusal. Everton is a great club and I’m sure with DM being a Scot and young Tom scoring a cracker at Goodison this deal might happen. I’d rather he went to you than Slumberland who are the ones normally nicking our talent!
Vaughan would be tremendous in the championship for us. We need a striker, but we also need Cairney. I’d rather get Vaughan on loan and thats it, i don’t see Cairney leaving, as good a club as Everton are, he is City through and through now.
And tigercity, well said, Sunderland are the most annoying team to ever come across, Nicking Turner and Campbell, then when we need Kilgallon to replace Turner, they nick him too, they have thrashed us twice 4-1 and beaten us twice 1-0, one which was the relegating goal. Ricky Sbragia also said our pitch was the worst he’s ever seen, and he dissed our team. Some signs are saying, Sunderland and Hull are not a match.
