Everton seal deal for Joao Silva

Sky Sports reports suggest that Everton have signed Portuguese forward Joao Silva.

The 19-year old youth international is currently plying his trade at Desportivo Aves, who play in Portgual’s second division. Having found the back of the net an impressive 13 times this season, Silva has caught the eye of clubs across Europe.

Everton though, it would seem, have triumphed in the race for his signature. A deal worth around £500,000 appears to have been agreed, with Silva set to join up with his new tea mates come the start of July.

“I am calm and working for my club now, but I am happy because to play in the Premier League is a dream for any footballer because it is the best in the world,” he said.

“Everton are a great club, I have seen them on television and they have great players. Due to my own characteristics, I believe it [England] will be perfect for me – it will be an enormous move for me but I am ambitious and will stay positive.”

Silva has been labelled the new Pauleta, not just because of their similar physique and play, but more so because he came through the lower leagues in Portugal, rather than from one of the big clubs like Benfica or Porto.

“It is a coincidence and an honour to be compared to Pauleta,” he concluded.
