Gosling was left “broken-hearted”
The agent of Dan Gosling has lifted the lid on the background as to why his client left Everton and signed for Championship winners Newcastle United.
David Hodgson, the player’s friend and agent, said: “Dan Gosling did not walk out on Everton, they chose not to keep him.
“Everton had an obligation to offer him a contract in writing by the third Saturday in May. They could have offered him 1 pound more than his old contract and could have kept him or got a fee for him at a tribunal.
“I rang Dan that day to ask if he had got the letter. It hadn’t arrived. He wasn’t jumping around the room in delight because he was a free agent. He was broken-hearted, in tears.”
Hodgson surmised that the knee problem Gosling suffered at Molineux at the back end of last season was the reason Everton let his contract run out.
But Hodgson added: “They probably felt that because Dan’s injury was so serious maybe nobody was going to sign him and they were in a position to offer him anything they wanted. But the final diagnosis on May 26 said he could be back playing by January.”

If Danny was so desperate to stay , shouldnt Hodgson as his agent /friend approached Everton and pushed them for a contract and warned them of the consequences ? Or was Mr 25% persuing his own agenda and using his client to line his own pocket by procuring a signing on fee ? … Everton are foolish for letting this slip but if the player’s preference was to stay then clearly the agent hasn’t acted in his client’s best interest

All the stuff about the injury is crap, Baz told me personally that it was a ‘clean’ cruciate and there was no worries over his rehab…suddenly the agent is making out like his career was thought to be in jeopardy.

If Dan Gosling wanted to stay he would have, Moyes and Kenwright would not have let him go knowing they could get up to 4 million for the lad. He knew what he was doing, he knew he’d get a massive payout for joining the skunks..and he didn’t look so heartbroken from the pictures, telling the press that he was delighted to be there, as soon as his cheque cleared.

What a load of crap. If he wanted to stay at Everton he would have signed the verbally agreed £15,000 per week contract. Yes it may not have been offered in writing by the necessary date; a clerical error. But it had been agreed and if he wanted to actually stay he wouldn’t have gone to court to secure his release.
He left us because of the big signing-on bonus for not commanding a transfer fee.
Good riddance to the little fuck when this is his attitude. I’m more upset about the £3m lost in transfer fees.
To incinuate that he wanted to stay at Everton after all that has transpired: This agent is as much of a joke as his client.

Fellaini, Arteta, Cahill, Bilyaletdinov, Pienaar, Rodwell, Osman and Neville. I can see why he left. Wouldn’t get 1 minute on the pitch even if he was fit. Take £25k a week out of Newcastle too cos they’re mugs and always look back on what could have been. It’s Plymouth missing out on an extra payment I feel sorry for. We shan’t miss him. In Moyes we trust.
Everton need to come out and explain fully why he didn’t get an offer in writing. I don’t believe what the agent is saying. Gosling had 10 or 11 midfielders (including anichebe on the right) to compete with at everton and probably didn’t fancy his chances of establishing himself as a first team player any time soon. It could be that it suits both him and everton in the long term. Whatever the circumstances we’re talking about a lad who scored a winner against Liverpool with a minute to go so I wish him all the best.

tbf I dont mind Newcastle, my mate lives there and gets me a ticket for the Everton games at SJP and ive never had any trouble, even when I was sat in the geordies end. Even sat with them for the coventry game this season and there was good banter, unlike the mackems who seem to think the world is a shithole outside their city..but I digress.
