Moyes: Everton is a great club, I’m going nowhere

David Moyes has told talkSPORT he’s not interested in the vacant post at Aston Villa, insisting he’s loyal to Everton and that he’s already at a great club.

A few of the tabloids have suggested, following Martin O’Neill’s shock resignation, that Randy Lerner would do all he could to convince David Moyes to swap Merseyside for the Midlands.

But Moyes poured cold water on any hope Villa may have, telling Alan Brazil on the Sports Breakfast that: “I’m loyal to Everton, I’ve always said that. It’s a really good club and this year we have a really good team and a really good chance of doing well. I’m happy to stay.”

Meanwhile Moyes praised Jermaine Beckford and called on him to repay the faith Everton have shown in him.

“Jermaine is a great goalscorer and we’ve given him a great chance and hopefully he’ll pay us back by scoring goals.”

With Sky Sports News yesterday running the story that West Ham had made a fresh approach for Yakubu, Moyes insisted the Nigerian is an integral part of his squad and pointed to his Premier League goalscoring record as reason not to flog him on the cheap.

Moyes said: “Yak is an integral part, look at his goalscoring record in the Premier League. At the moment we’re not looking to sell him unless an offer was big enough.”
