Samuelson: Kenwright knows why Fortress fell through

All smiles: Samuelson's Thames Sports Investment are set to takeover at Reading

Chris Samuelson has confirmed that there was a ‘very good reason’ why the Fortress Sports Fund never materialised at Everton.

Samuelson fronted the Brunei-based fund that would have taken a 29.9 per cent stake in the club in 2004. Ian Ross described the episode as ‘a means to an end’ to fend off former Everton director Paul Gregg.

‘There was a very good reason why we withdrew from the transaction with Everton. I’m not going to go into it here. It’s confidential between me and Bill Kenwright.’

Spill it baldy…he’s been having us over for years!

  2. johnefc says:

Confidential agreemnet he means (legal silence) just like all the others. Anyone who HAS to gag every single person they speak or deal with is up to no good, and that person is Bill Kenwright.

  3. Peter says:

The truth will out. Kenwright has blood on his hands the way that he has crucified our great club with his dirty tactics to retain ownership for his on self pride, narcissistic tendencies and personal greed.

I can’t believe its so long ago since the proposed Samuelson ‘deal’. Have we really been waiting for investment for so long. Almost all other clubs throughout the English leagues have had some form of investment in that time..all except Everton Football Club. I appreciate that we could have ended up with investors like those who took over at Birmingham and Blackburn, look at their situation now to give the argument some balance, but I, along with all Evertonians are completely at a loss to understand why investment never materialises. So if there are any Warren Buffets or Bill Gates out there who are interested in buying a great tradition such as EFC lets hear from you. If you have made a substantive offer for EFC lets hear from you too, tell us why you pulled out, perhaps this way we will get some information as to why we are in this awful financial situation.

  5. Bazman says:

Please Bill, just realise that your lifes dream is no longer viable. You have failed this once proud football club and brought it to it’s knees. Fuck off now before you damage our club any further.

  6. Barry says:

    Very quick note:

Back in 2004, Kenwright enthused wildly over Anton taking us over:

“[Anton] is terrific,” he said. “He’s got an encyclopaedic football knowledge and passion for the game.”
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/238…n-saviour.html

That story was quickly shot down in flames by the Zingarevich family, both father and son denied any knowledge or desire to buy Everton:

“I can say that Boris Zingarevich is not planning to buy directly or indirectly assets abroad, I mean sports clubs.
“And this applies to his son and any investment funds as well.”

Now Samuelson in 2012 is saying:

Chris Samuelson said: “There was a very good reason why we withdrew from the transaction with Everton. This is Anton not his father. “He’s 29 years old, intelligent educated young man. This was his dream to find a football club he could back and grow. “There was a very good reason why we had to withdraw from that, I’m not going to go into it here. It’s confidential between me and Bill Kenwright.”
“Anton and not his father” – as opposed to what? What the situation was at Everton – Boris and not Anton, I wonder?

Somebody’s telling some porkies. Whole thing stinks – and not for the first time involving Kenwright.

And some people continue to wonder why the Blue Union wants only one thing – that the sale process of the club is taken out of Kenwright’s hands and placed into the hands of an independent financial services expert.

I very much agree with the sentiments of Colin. Let’s try and find any of these ‘interested parties’ who have backed out in the past, and see if any of them are willing to speak out as to why they didn’t take their ‘interest’ any further. It could be what’s needed to force these charlatans out of our once great club.

What ever happened to good old fashioned investigative journalism there just has to be a story here somewhere you cant run a viable company into the ground like kenwright has,I’d like to be able to blame the other board members eg Robert Earl and Phillip green who Kenwright would have us believe is just an adviser but the buck has to stop with the biggest blue on the planet there lies the real sick joke that this whole episode in our history is in danger of taking us.Any blue worth there salt must feel revulsion that he maintains he has asset stripped us for the good of the club, and he puts himself at being a better blue than the rest of us.Just how more are you the silent majority of blues going to tip toe us into the lower league maybe to not be seen again ever as a big club.Ibeg all EVERTON FANS to unite and get this very dangerous man out and away from our club before its to late.

  9. chris o brien says:

kenwright will be the first charman in over 50 years to oversee this once proud clubs relagation

  10. Gordon Lee's Ghost says:

To all you Billertonians out there, you are not supporting our club! You are supporting the broken dreams of a megalomanic! This man is the footballing equivalent of Adolf Hitler and the Roman Emperor Nero! It’s he who is trying to hold onto a dream of being all powerful, while he’s sitting in his bunker letting us all suffer. It is he who is telling us to “Watch this space!” whilst the wolves are at the door! He is fiddling whilst Rome (Everton) burns. Stand together and lets get him out! He is a malignant mass in the heart of our ONCE great club! Do not believe his propaganda! SAVE OUR CLUB!!!!!!

I only know one thing for sure and I am not even certain of that? there is no transparency in these matter’s what so ever, But I do have to believe that Bill Kenwright has to keep quiet to a degree because he doesn’t have the backing to up- the-anti (finances) the other member’s of the Board could all go and take a long walk of a short pier for all I care Woods, Green Earl et al and who is this Billionaire we already supposed to have in the club somewhere? he’s meant to be a Lord… Granchester is it? well he’s definitely up to no good if he’s in there somewhere, I’ll bet he and other suspect sources are doing a great job of stifling a great prospect, IMHO I believe Mr Kenwright.

  12. craig sharman says:

It never seems to end with us, it started 20 years ago, the farcical non existant world class signings, everyone bar pele was seen at the training ground, and through the endless false dawns and promises of better times, new ground, investment blah blah blah we now arrive at this the sorriest state of affairs, just before i explain why all the heartache and misery is worth it to my 3yr old so she can embark on her blue journey could someone please explain the following, how is it thatin the last 5 years we have made countless millions from player sales merchandise, tv, premier leugue, europe etc and yet have no money to buy anyone and moreover act a poision challace to any would be investor at a time where most leugue 1 clubs spend more than us, also look at the effect its having on the field, whilst i for one dont wish to see moyes go any time soon somewhere along the line his hands need untying or he will be off with the rest of them

  13. tony the toffee says:
