Barcelona linked with Arteta swoop

Tribal Football are reporting that Barcelona are ready to pounce for Everton’s Basque midfielder Mikel Arteta if their pursuit of Cesc Fabregas proves unsuccessful.

Given the source, Evertonians could be forgiven for deeming this as unfounded nonense, but it appears it has come from the Spanish media outlets.

Arteta es el plan B si fracasa el intento por Cesc

The midfielder is currently in contract negotiations with the Blues, with reports suggesting the Toffees are willing to make Arteta the highest ever paid player on £75,000-a-week to keep him at the club.

Arteta joined Barcelona aged just 15 and made 42 appearances for the Catalonian club’s B team before moving on to PSG, Rangers, Real Sociedad and Everton. Rumours continue to circulate that Arteta is unsettled in Liverpool and craves a return to his Spanish homeland.

Probably bullshit but last thing we need is for this to be playing on his mind.

Now the world and his wife know barca ain’t got a pot to pee in. Hence the gov loan they acquired. That’s why they haven’t sealed a fabregas deal and that’s why arteta will be off limits. Not a story to worry about

  3. Pheeno says:

Barca have 50 million euros net per year to spend on transfers. They have sold players of the same value to those they’ve brought in so they do have money to spend. The issue with fabregas is differing valuations.

Although I am sceptical about it, I would wish him all the best if he was to go and many of us in the same position would find it hard to turn down

  5. Paul Daly says:

The only club in world football that I could understand him moving to.

  6. DOUG says:

If he goes then that’s one less 75k a week we don’t have to fork out. I hate to bring it down to money but I’m just trying to look at the positives. He’s been injured more than I can remember him not, so maybe it’s not the worst thing to happen. Liverpool FC being bailed out AGAIN tops that one. I for one would wish Arteta and his family all the best and thank him for all the happy moments on the pitch!

Tribal Football are notorious for talking shit. And I hope to Christ that this one is the same. Because even I could not fault Arteta if he turned his back on the blues to join Barca. Higher wages, playing for his home-countries best team, an inevitable call-up to the national side would all beckon. Let’s hope that as Tribal Football’s record leads me to believe, that this one’s not true either.

Whens Arteta signing the new deal lads? Was it 4 or 5 years you were adamant about?

  9. Who could blame Arteta for going to Barca and leaving our totally unambitious club, fronted by the biggest lying gobshite in the game?
