Everton target 1860 München striker

Everton are in the race to sign 1860 Munich striker Peniel Mlapa, according to press reports in Germany.

The 19 year old German Togolese striker, who stands at 6 feet and 4 inches tall, has been scouted at least six times by Everton according to the club’s chief executive officer.

And it seems that the Blues have been suitably impressed.

“There were scouts with us, which even ran the spit from his mouth,” said Manfred Stoffers, CEO of 1860.

Ernst Tanner , the ex-youth team manager of 1860, recently took up the post of first-team manager at the club after the resignation of Jan Schindelmeiser. He has managed Peniel since he arrived at 1860, and is more than aware of his capabilites. He insists, though, that any deal with Everton is yet to be finalised.

Tanner said: “Peniel is a super boy. Of course clubs are interested in such a player. But I have nothing to sign lying on the desk.”

With Moyes’ admissions in yesterday’s Daily Express regarding his scouting diligence still fresh in mind, this one could yet prove to have legs.
